An Elegant White Shabby Chic
Yesterday we left off creating our Elegant Coastal Seashell Christmas Tablescape. Today we are going to finish our tablescape with our Elegant Coastal Seashell Christmas Table Setting.
Our first layer on the tablecloth will be the chargers. Cindy used classic silver beaded rim chargers. Most of us already have a set of these chargers as they are a classic look that will always be in style. Just in case you don’t, I’ll feature one set so that you can create Cindy’s table setting exactly as she did, if you want to.
If you are just starting out with collecting entertaining servingware, sterling silver is the very best. However, it is pricey. Instead, I found a set of reasonably priced silver-plated beaded chargers.
Godinger Silver-Plated Beaded Charger Plates
Set of 12
Rather than being “just like Cindy”, I want to mix it up a bit and offer you alternatives to work with so that you will be inspired to use your creativity and create a table setting of your own to be proud of.
Three gorgeous charger plates to choose from to add sparkle and style to your coastal seashell themed table setting. The shiny silver chargers will sparkle in the candlelight making it feel magical! They remind me of the sun sparkling on the ocean waves.
Note: The silver reef chargers have sold on several websites or are being charged at a much higher price. They have sold out on Amazon from several different vendors. If they are something that you want on your seaside table, order quick before they sell out again.
Of course, you could really mix it up and instead of doing shabby chic tone-on-tone white with silver, go with a turquoise charger plate as the first layer on the blue and teal coral print placemats.

For the next layer, Cindy uses creamy white china to serve her guest their Christmas meal.
Hampton Creamy White 16-Pc Pottery Dinnerware Set by Thompson Pottery
A casual set of distressed seashell embossed shabby chic style dinnerware pottery will bring the ocean inside for an informal setting, yet with a beachy elegance, for a Christmas gathering. Layer them with an aqua set of china and set up a beautiful breakfast or brunch seashell Christmas tablescape on Christmas morning.
I like to create interest with my table settings by layering the serving dishes. I like the finished look of my layered table settings when I have mixed two and sometimes three different sets of china. Since we have incorporated shades of baby blue, aqua, and teal into our tablescape design, I would mix in a layer of aqua salad plates or canape plates to use with the white china. Canape plates are smaller than salad plates. They may be used for appetizers or to serve small salads.
These two sets are fabulous pottery dinnerware sets with embossed seashells in a creamy white or an aqua blue that can easily be mixed and matched while keeping with our coastal seashell theme.

You could always just buy salad plates or canape plates to mix in with the white dinnerware you are already using at home. I found some really awesome aqua plates that will look beautiful mixed in with white or ivory dinnerware.

Fabulous Examples of Beach Inspired
Using sea scallop shells as appetizer plates is such a fun thing to do when decorating with seashells and one that I have often used in the past. Adding seashell place card holder is another nice coordinating touch.
Silver-Plated Scallop Seashell Pair
by Philmore USA
Use a beautiful seashell ornament, like one of Margaret Furlong’s sea inspired ornaments, as a party favor momento for your guest to take home by placing it on the last layered dish. It gives your guest a lasting memory of the evening. I think it is a nice reminder for your guest how much you really care about them. The seashell place card holders would then be placed on the table to the right of the place setting.
Mud Pie Terracotta Shell Dip Cup Set
This awesome seashell and seastar designed dish is supposed to be a dip set, but I am loving it as an individual appetizer dish for shrimp cocktail!
It could also be used as a small salad or soup bowl. The seashell design is a perfect fit as the last layer of a coastal beach table setting. The included seashell spoon in this set is so cute!
Placing a white pencil starfish ornament is the perfect contrasting finishing touch against the aqua salad/soup dish. I like the idea of using a handmade starfish ornament to give to my guest as a momento for my guest to take home when they leave.

This baroque aqua salad plate will look fabulous when beautifully layered with white baroque china for a Coastal Christmas tablescape.
Another well done casual, yet elegant coastal table setting. I love the layering on this coastal tablescape with the white distressed milk glaze plates and the aqua starfish salad plates!
Milk Glazed Starfish Dinner Plate by Mud Pie
I have been a big fan of Mud Pie’s coastal products for a long time and the embossed starfish design on this dinner plate got my attention right away. It is a fabulous addition for a casual seashell Christmas table setting, but can be dressed up for a more elegant setting by layering with fine china and crystal. Use them now for a coastal seashell themed Christmas dinner setting or any time of the year you are in a beachy kind of mood.

A fabulous starfish design, these aqua ceramic starfish plates are made to serve appetizers or salads. Place upon a white dinner plate and make a bold statement your seashell themed table setting.
Oneida Stainless Steel Flatware
and Serving Sets
We do need silverware to eat with and silver is the best match for our coastal table setting. However, if you haven’t already invested in a sterling silverware pattern, it can be very expensive getting a complete set. Many young people start out growing their silver pattern with a service for 2 or 4 then increase it with one place setting at a time until they can afford more pieces.
I did find a couple of decent stainless steel flatware sets as an alternative to silver that will look almost as beautifully elegant with our coastal theme, even though they are not real silver. You can start with a complete set in a gorgeous mahagony case or with smaller place setting sets.
Oneida Michelangelo 68-Pc Flatware Set
Service for 12 with Mahogany Chest
A complete set of stainless steel flatware in an elegant, ornate, baroque pattern, has the feel and look of sterling silver, but with a much more affordable price tag. The set is a service of 12, including 8 serving pieces, all stored in a felt lined mahogany storage chest.
If looking at a more casual affair using aqua, turquoise, or ice blue plates mixed into the layers. This next set of flatware will coordinate nicely.
Vietri Aladdin Antique Light Blue 5-Pc Place Setting
The setting has a casual elegance with the silver weave design and elegant pearlized acrylic handles. This set is a light blue, but they are also available in aqua.
Clear Crystal Drinking Glasses
& Wine Stemware
Add another touch of elegance to match the silver on the eclectic table setting of a coastal seashell theme with crystal drinking glasses and stemware. The Waterford crystal from Ireland is one of the finest brands of crystal available in the USA.

The La Rochere Versailles Seashell Glasses Sets are a lovely addition to a casual Christmas seashell themed table setting. It was inspired from the Palace of Versailles.

This set of gorgeous crystal stemware will grace any table setting you may want to create and make your guest feel like royalty.
Green Artichoke Finial with White Moss Finish
A moss covered finial looks like a pricey antique you would find at an estate garden. The finish on this artichoke finial looks like real moss! The detailing on this wonderful piece has been carefully crafted for the look of weathered stone. Use it as a table ornament outside or inside. I like it as a fabulous decorative piece to add interest to a seashell Christmas table setting and to recreate the table setting in the photo above.
Large Rainbow Abalone Seashell
Don’t you think this abalone shell is the perfect soup bowl or salad bowlfor an coastal themed seashell Christmas tablescape? I certainly do. I have always loved the luminous blue-green colors of the ocean in the mother-of-pearl that can be found on the inside surface of abalone shells. I have dozens of them placed around my home that I picked up years ago on various dives.
What I did to use them as food vessels was to seal the holes on the side of the shell with rubber cement and seal the whole shell with resin. Unless you have experience with resin, I don’t advise this to be your first project as you could ruin the abalone shell. Several coats of polyurethane should work just as well. Using the polyurethane will make it a simple job that will only take 24 hours to dry.
There are so many ways seashells can be incorporated into a Christmas tablescape. All it takes is a little imagination. Your Christmas tablescape can be as elegant or as casual as your guests.
- Use large sea scallop shells for appetizer plates or white clam shells for salad bowls.
- Giant clam shells can be used to serve salads on the sideboard or buffet table.
- Paint ugly seashells with silver Krylon mirror paint and place them randomly on the table along with mercury glass votive candle holders for additional elegance and sparkle.
- Add seashells, starfish and Christmas ornaments to large crystal bowls for table displays
- Drape the adjacent mantle with evergreen garlands wrapped with seashell garland and Christmas lights to coordinate with the seashell tablescape decor.
Bring the beach into your home by decorating with seashells, starfish, sand dollars and driftwood! Remember to add lots of candles make your tablescape shimmer and sparkle. Make it look so magical King Neptune would want to be invited to dinner!
