A Silver and White Contemporary Christmas Tablescape Idea
White is a fabulous color to blend with silver metal elements when designing a minimalist silver contemporary Christmas tablescape. Sarah designed this fabulous minimalist contemporary tablescape which she featured on her website, Adventures of Our Family, on a very small budget.
Some of the table items are pieces left over from her wedding, some came from a local dollar store and some came from a local thrift shop. With a can of white spray paint in hand she turned her table decorations into something….well….fabulous!
Sarah mixes a bit of Old World charm with modern style by using a white Battenburg cut out lace table runner with a silver monochrome design in her table setting. This design will be an easy one to recreate with a few very small change options. As always I will included resources for you get a better idea as to what you too can achieve.
Daisy Lace Embroidered Cutwork Table Runner
by Xia Home Fashions
Sarah’s lovely tablescape design begins with a cut out design white Battenburg style lace table runner similar to this one.
I like the alternative idea of keeping with the silver contemporary theme by substituting a contemporary glitzy silver table runner with a chevron design instead of the antique style white cutout lace table runner.
Trendy Silver Chevron Sparkly Sequin Table Runner
by Event Decor Direct
Sparkling sequins and chevron designs are at an all time high in popularity this holiday Christmas season and this white and silver sequin table runner is perfect to use on a contemporary silver Christmas tablescape.
I would use it again for a New Year’s party or any special holiday event. Imagine how beautiful it will look when paired with cobalt blues for a special Hanukkah event.
Luxurious Silver Beaded Embroidered Oblong Table Runner
by Saro Lifestyle
Add an air of elegance to this silver contemporary Christmas tablescape by placing this silver table runner, handcrafted with embroidered beadwork, down the center of the table.
A more trendy approach to a contemporary table design for this holiday season would be to place 3 shorter length table runners across the width of the table instead of one down the length of the table. Just like they have done with the silver beaded table runner in the photo.
The 3 silver table runners do not necessarily need to match, but for this contemporary design I would keep them all silver. Perhaps place a sheer organza with a silver geometric design in the center with a solid silver satin on one end and a silver beaded table runner on the other end. It keeps with the silver contemporary theme, yet is an elegant design.
Another idea would be to place 2 matching table runners across each end of the table with a solid silver satin or a silver sequined table runner in the center to keep the design balanced….. or not.
White Birch Branches 3-4 Feet Tall
Pack of 6-7 Stems by Green Floral Crafts
Sarah’s design using the white willow branches placed in a white vase as the focal point of her Christmas tablescape is gorgeous. She used decorative pieces she already hand on hand leftover from her wedding reception. We can do the same with either these white birch branches or there is a better idea, if you and your kids have the time.
Take a nature walk, collecting dead branches as you walk. When you have enough for your display, take them home and spray paint them white. All you have to pay for is the paint and the kids will have a great time helping Mom.
Most of us have a ton of old flower vases hanging out in the cupboards. With the great spray paints we have on the market these days, I would grab a can of Krylon Gloss White spray paint and paint one of the large vases to hold the tree branches for my centerpiece.
Did you know that Krylon now makes a spray glitter too? Why not add extra sparkle and glimmer to the table by spraying the branches with a top coat of Krylon Glitter Blast, Diamond Dust or Glitter Blast, Silver Flash.
Don’t have a glass vase; only a plastic one hanging about? Not a problem. Krylon makes a plastic fusion spray paint formulated to adhere to plastic.
I found three awesome video tutorials for DIY painted vases. Watch all 3 to see which idea will work the best for your personal preference. The first video has 3 different easy to do painting techniques.

Three Different Techniques
Krylon also makes a mirror glass paint that will give the vase a mirror finish. With a vinegar spraying technique it can be made to look like silver mercury glass instead of a silver mirror. Watch this next DIY tutorial to earn how to do it.
DIY: Faux Mercury Glass Tutorial
In this last video tutorial she uses Plaid Delta PermEnamel Paint to paint her vases instead of spray painting with Krylon.
DIY Painted Glass Vases
Place a crystal candlestick on each side of the tree branch centerpiece arrangement. Sarah placed a dollar store tea light candle on top of each candlestick, but I would prefer white table candles.
Elegant Classic Crystal Candlestick Pair
I would then place silver votive and tea light candle holders staggered down the table from each candlestick and at each place setting.
This pair of crystal candlesticks by Godinger have been listed at an unbelievably low price!
Next, fill an apothecary jar with silver and pearl beads. Sarah, being a very budget conscious girl, used two thrift shop find glass pieces; an apothecary jar and a glass bowl with a silver-tone rim. She placed them on dollar store stands that she painted white. This is certainly a thrifty option!
You may already have the pieces you can use packed away in your own cupboards. If not, check out the thrift stores and the Dollar Tree Stores in your local area to see what you can find. A little paint and glue can do wonders!
Elegant Clear Glass Apothecary Jar with Lid
Sarah bought silver bead strands of what I call Mardi Gras beads at JoAnn’s, but you might be able to find them at a dollar store too. Personally, I would substitute pearl beads. I think pearls give a rich, warm, elegance to the table.
Decorative Silver Pearl Vase Filler Beads
For real elegance I would use a mixture of silver, white and ivory pearl beads in the apothecary jar. The pearls will give an elegant warm iridescent glow in the candlelight; adding Christmas magic to the table!

Crystal Pedestal Bowls
Place a crystal pedestal bowl, such as anyone of the gorgeous crystal pedestal bowls I have featured below, at the other end of the table, next to the crystal candlestick. Fill it with silver, white, and gray Christmas ornaments.
Now, if your budget is extremely tight, it is perfectly fine to get a bowl at a local thrift shop like Sarah did and glue it to a pedestal that you can pick up from the local dollar store. Paint it white or with a Krylon Mirror Paint which will sparkle in the candlelight beautifully.

A Contemporary Silver and White
Silver Contemporary Charger Plates
The first step in layering our silver contemporary table setting is to start with a silver charger. Sarah used a ruffled edge silver charger set that she bought at a bargain price. I found a charger just like hers, unfortunately not at thrift store prices. It is still a really good buy and will be a wonderful first layer of your table setting.
Silver Ruffle Rim Charger Plate
Have a look at several more contemporary silver charger options I found in my search that you may like. If you already have a set of silver chargers in your cupboards, by all means, use them and don’t purchase something new unless you want a brand new contemporary design.
Mirror Charger Plates
Anyone can plop down a plain silver charger, but I think it takes a unique individual with an eye for design to use these silver mirror glass chargers. They will be a definite attention grabber in any place setting as they reflect the candlelight beautifully!
This elegant mirror chargers are made entirely out of mirror glass and will make a stunning statement on a contemporary silver themed table setting.
Keep in mind that the mirror charger is strictly a decorate table piece used to hold a dinner plate. Its purpose is to add decorative style to the dinner table. It is NOT meant for food use. Also, the manufactures recommend washing by hand only. I like to clean them with a glass spray and paper towels.
Silver Lacquer Square Charger Plate
Set of 6 by 10 Strawberry Street
Layering this square silver charger with silver and white dishes will keep with the theme of the tablescape while giving the table setting a serene winter feel.
White Quattro 16-Pc Square Dinnerware Set
by Studio TU
Most of us have at least one set of white china that we love to use when layering our table settings. This is the exact same set that Sarah used for her table setting on her silver and white tablescape.
I think the square white dinnerware set will also look awesome layered with a square silver charger and contrasting silver plates.
Lenox Opal Innocence Silver and White 5-Piece Place Setting
I am a big fan of the high quality of Lenox bone china and this new Opal Innocence pattern is gorgeous! The platinum rims and silver floral scrollwork pattern accented with pearls on the white china will be an amazing addition to our table and the perfect way to pamper our guest.
Sarah made her own silver satin napkins from a piece of fabric she already had on hand. If you like to sew and have the time to do so, have at it. Keep in mind that satin is no longer a cheap fabric to buy and you may end out spending more in time, energy, and money if choosing to sew them yourself.
Silver Lamour Satin Polyester Napkins
Set of 12 by Elizabeth Austin
This set of silver poly satin napkins are very affordable and will cost less to purchase than it will cost to sew them yourself. That is unless you already have the fabric on hand like Sarah did.
Sarah placed a large glittered snowflake on top of the folded silver napkin as the final touch to her place setting design. She picked them up at a dollar store.
For my guest, I would step it up a notch by placing a crystal snowflake Christmas ornament on each place setting napkin. The snowflake Christmas ornament will be a party favor for each guest to take home when they leave and hang on their own Christmas tree. It will be a momento that they can cherish for years.
Icy Crystal Clear Filigree Snowflake Christmas Ornaments
Pack of 24
I am so amazed at how beautifully these acrylic snowflakes reflect the lights and send sparkles all over the room as if they are real crystal. I have ordered both acrylic snowflakes and icicles in the past, and was so pleased with them I am ordering more this year. Your guest will feel special when they receive one to take home.
This is a pack of 24 pieces; 6 of each style. They can be used to decorate other places in the home if you’re not planning on 24 guests for dinner. They are really a great bargain for the quality of the acrylic pieces.
Momento Christmas Ornaments
Crystal Platinum Banded Stemware
When having guest over for Christmas dinner, it is the time to get your very best crystal glasses out of storage and use them. USE them… often! Enjoy what you have and let other’s enjoy them too. That is what they are for!
If you haven’t yet started your crystal stemware collection, there isn’t a better time to start than now. Crystal, like silver, gets more expensive every year and vintage crystal sets are now worth a small fortune. During the holiday season, crystal stemware often goes on sale for the Christmas shopper so keep your eye out for the crystal stemware sales. In fact, the Vera Wang and the Lenox stemware featured below are on sale right now.

I prefer using platinum banded crystal stemware when setting a contemporary silver and white table. Even though they are actually a classic style glass, their clean lines have a modern look. Above are 4 selections you may want to have in your crystal goblet collection.
In my opinion, there is NOT enough candle light on this tablescape! I believe in placing as many candles as possible on the table to give it that magical festive Christmas feel.
Round Glass Crystal Votive Tea Light Candle Holder Stand Set
Round Crystal Votive Tea Light Candle Holders Set of 4
Place silver votive and tealight candle holders adjacent to each place setting. I love to fill in the gaps of a tablescape with unscented votives scattered randomly about the dinner table. They will make your guest feel welcomed by the warm glow cast by the candlelight. I have found it best to use unscented to prevent conflicts with the aromas of the food being served.
