Table of Contents
I am featuring a variety of ideas for you to use to create a Simple Rustic Christmas Tablescape for this Christmas holiday season. My hope is to inspire you to take these ideas and recreate a rustic Christmas tablescape all your own.
Take the ideas from the beautiful tablescapes featured in the photos, along with the suggestions I offer, to create your own tablescape design using natural elements along with items you may already have on hand. Adding beautiful pieces will turn your dining table into a truly stunning Christmas table setting you will be proud to showcase to your special guests.
Some of the ideas for these tablescapes may even inspire you to get crafty with DIY projects. For those of you who don’t have the time to make rustic Christmas decorations, I have found sources where you can purchase the pieces needed to recreate the look you want. Personally, I like to take ideas from many different rustic Christmas tablescape creations and put them together in my own way.
Jennifer Rizzo begins her simple centerpiece by filling a long wood trough-shaped dough bowl with 3 birch wood style candles, fresh evergreens, silver mercury glass Christmas ornaments, and a glittery silver bird. She has chosen silver ornaments and silver tableware to tie the look together in her rustic Christmas tablescape.
Any long wood trough-shaped dough bowl you may already have in your kitchen pantry cupboard will be perfect to achieve the very same look of this simple rustic Christmas tablescape.
Years ago when I was still living in Hawaii, I had an antique poi board originally used to pound taro root into poi. I used this wood trough often when entertaining as the focal point for tablescapes. It was made of koa wood and looked beautiful for island style entertaining.
I have selected several beautiful examples of wood dough bowls in both a primitive and polished style. Either are beautiful choices. It all depends on the style you prefer for entertaining. Do you want a rustic primitive look or do you prefere a more refined rustic table?
Rustic Solid Wood Dough Bowls
Place a trio of birch wood candles in the center of the dough bowl and surround them with the mercury glass ornaments and fresh evergreens. To be on the safe side, I would use LED tea lights instead of real candles to prevent any accidental fires.

Rustic Woven Display Baskets
Of course, you are not limited to large wood dough bowls. Long serving baskets made with interesting weaves and materials can be substituted to achieve a rustic, homespun look.
For a long dining room table, more than one basket can be placed end-to-end down the length of the table. Fill each basket for bowl with candles, ornaments, and fresh evergreens
Again, remember to only use LED candles when using woven baskets for safety’s sake.
Woven Rattan Serving Baskets
I like to collect unique baskets and am always on the hunt during the summer months at garage sales and flea markets looking for interesting antique baskets. It is a great way to find baskets to both decorate and organize my home at fabulous low prices.
Don’t throw away chicken wire baskets. They can be lined with moss and filled with greenery for a gorgeous rustic focal point in your tablescape.
Rustic Metal Wire Industrial Baskets
If you are a crafty DIYer, scraps of fabric can be woven in and out of the metal wire for a whole new rustic look. Use scraps that match your color scheme.
For example, if layering the dinner table with blue and white china transferware, use blue and white fabric scraps to weave through the wire of the container.
Galvanized metal or enamelware metal containers are another idea for a rustic country style Christmas tablescape. Any rustic looking container, regardless of the material it is made from, will add interest to the table and look amazing!

Silver Christmas Table Top Decorations and Figurines
Adding silver Christmas decorations and figurines to the tablescape. Jennifer chose silver orrnament pieces for her rustic Christmas tablescape. If wanting a rustic elegance on your dining table, I recommend continuing with the silver theme.
Silver Mercury Glass Ornaments
Mini blue and green mercury glass ornaments look beautiful scattered around the table of a Christmas tablescape. They add subtle color to coordinate with the natural greenery used to decorate the table.
The beautiful glass behaves as candlelight reflectors creating a magical effect glimmering off the walls and all around the room. Nestled them into the greens of the centerpiece bowl, place them around the candle holders at each end of the table, and place them randomly on the table around the centerpiece and the guests place settings.

Additionally, place 2 or 3 silver candle holders of different heights to each side of containers and at the end of the table as anchors in the tablescape design.
Mercury glass candle holders can look both rustic and elegant all at the same time and are so much more affordable than sterling silver candle holders.

You can never have too many candles on a table and this next deer antler tea light candle holder is a perfect addition for this rustic themed Christmas tablescape. Add several of them to the table, placing one on each side of the birch wood basket centerpiece, and another next to each place setting.
Smaller votive and tealight candles can be placed all around the table for additional light and sparkle.

French Country Rustic Farm House Dining Tables
Jennifer’s rustic Christmas tablescape was created for an inmate seating of 6 on a rather small dining table making it close quarters for her guest. Her tablescape is actually more of a centerpiece as the size of the table didn’t leave much room for expansion into a true tablescape, but it is very pretty just the same.
Ideally, we would already have a farmhouse style dining room table to serve our guest their Christmas meal, whether it be for a family Christmas brunch or Christmas dinner. If you dont’t already have a dining table, now is the time to invest in one for the holiday season. Here are a few gorgeous examples of French Country Farmhouse style dining tables.

On a longer farm style table we can expand this centerpiece down the length of the table into a fresh, simple, yet elegant, rustic Christmas tablescape.
Jennifer dressed her table with a funky tablecloth decorated with gold glitter and sequin embellishments that I think takes away from the rustic look we want to achieve.
A great alternative, for a fabulous wood farmhouse style table, is to leave it bare and just add a simple neutral linen table runner and placemats. If need be, hide any tabletop imperfections by covering them with a neutral color, natural cotton or linen tablecloth.
I like the idea of using a dark hunter green or burgundy tablecloth with this rustic theme as the backdrop for the table design. Add a lighter colored table runner and placemats for an interesting contrast to the darker tablecloth landscape.
