A Coastal Blue Crab Christmas
Blue Crab Bay Stoneware Dinnerware is the inspiration which brought me to this Blue Crab Christmas tablescape idea. If you are searching for an idea for a coastal themed Christmas dinner party, this blue crab Christmas tablescape idea may be just the right one for you.
I bought a set of Blue Crab Bay Stoneware Dinnerware a few years back and even though I can no longer claim ownership to the beloved set (one of my daughters took them when I downsized) I do love that they had been used lovingly for many occasions and for many years.
I love that Mary from homeiswheretheboatis.net thinks so much like I did when I still owned my set. In fact, she reminds me a lot of myself. Anyway, like Mary, I have used my Blue Crab Bay Stoneware Dinnerware for tablescapes in many different seasons and occasions from Mardi Gras parties to summer crab boils and many patriotic celebrations in between.
When I first bought them I liked the fact that I could get awesome serving pieces to add to the original set. Many of the blue crab designs I had found at the time were way overpriced “designer” art plates without any way to expand on the sets. Then the lovely stoneware was discontinued.
I have found a replacement dinnerware set which can be used to recreate this Blue Crab themed Christmas tablescape without having to use the original Blue Crab Bay stoneware.

When I use Blue Crab dinnerware I like to layer the place settings with creamy white seaside inspired dinnerware rather than using the Blue Crab for every layer.
White Seashell & Starfish Embossed
16-Pc. Dinnerware Set
by Thomson Pottery
The contrast of the white dinnerware with the blue crab dinnerware gives more interest to the tablescape. This seashell and sea star embossed dinnerware set is the perfect accompaniment to the blue crab designed dinnerware.
Note: The stoneware has since been brought back by Blue Crab Bay Co. and are now only available for purchase on their Blue Crab Bay Co. website.

White Coral Place Card Holder
Set of 6
White coral has such a clean natural look from the sea and this resin set of 6 will look amazing as the last layer of the blue crab table setting. One can be placed on the top dish of the place setting; an appetizer plate, a salad plate or a soup bowl. They will look beautiful against the blue and white stoneware.
The set comes with two pieces of resin coral in each style for a total of 6 place card holders. They have cuts in the top to slide the place cards into and bases to keep them standing.
I am amazed at the detailing of these beautiful pieces. They were crafted to look just like real coral. As I am sure you already know, it is now illegal to harvest real coral so these crafted pieces are the perfect replacements.
Seagrass Charger Plate
A woven seagrass charger plate is an ideal accent piece to use as the first layer of any coastal themed tablescape place setting. In fact it is the type of charger used in Mary’s blue crab Christmas tablescape.
To spruce it up (no pun intended) place some fresh evergreen sprigs around the edge of the seagrass charger before layering with the Blue Crab Bay and the white seashell dinnerware.
During summer months the fresh evergreens can be swapped out with faux seaweed…seashell garland…or not. They are lovely all on their own without any extra adornment.
Gayle 78″ Cherry Wood Trestle Dining Table
When I entertained in the past I needed several dining tables to seat everyone (big family and all) and the kids, family and friends always had to bring a “+ 1” without any prior notice because hey, “there is always room for one more!” Thus extra seating always a necessity.
Are you having a holiday dinner this year and your little round kitchen table just will not cut it to entertain the in-laws and friends? Consider a beautifully constructed and finished, rustic style, dining table to entertain this season.
This awesome dining table can be set up and used every day. Then decorate it with a beautiful tablescape for every special occasion!
I love the way Mary decided to push her dining table up against the wall of her lanai, and covered it with a red and white stripe machine quilted coverlet as the tablecloth for her Blue Crab Christmas Tablescape. Very innovated on her part, I think.
I also think this is a great way to incorporate the color red into a coastal theme Christmas tablescape idea. I just happen to have a red and white piece quilt that my Grandmother made, eons ago, which is perfect for this Christmas tablescape idea.
However, we all don’t just happen to have one hanging out in our linen closets. If I didn’t already have a red and white quilt, I would be inclined to use a vintage style red and white tablecloth instead, such as the following cotton striped examples. I was so lucky to find them for you.
Red Stripe Linen Tuscany Tablecloth
A fabulous red stripe linen vintage style tablecloth brings a nautical feel to the table and complements any blue crab coastal Christmas theme. It is a simple vintage design, of superb linen quality with easy care maintenance. Made of 100 percent linen fabric with red stripes of different widths. I love this table cloth for any vintage tablescape! Christmas or summer, I think this tablecloth is an ideal choice.
Old World Cream & Red Striped Linen Table Runner
In case you have decided to show off the wood of a gorgeous dining table, it is of course possible to set a beautiful Christmas table using just a table runner, in which case this one would be ideal to keep with a casual Christmas coastal theme.
Place it alone horizontally down the center of the table or for a different change, place it across the width of the table over the tablecloth like they did in the image used for the Tuscay tablecloth above.
Navy Gingham Check Oversized Dinner Napkins
Set of 12
In the photo for this Christmas tablescape idea, Mary chose to use blue and white large check napkins like the ones pictured here. I like them a lot with the galvanized candleholders and pails of greenery, but since I have decided to use red as the main theme color for this Christmas tablescape, I think I prefer the red stripe cotton napkins I am featuring below much better.
I actually do need to get a new set of napkins to send to my daughter to coordinate with her collection of Blue Crab Bay Dinnerware. I found several sets of napkins that I like for this coastal blue crab Christmas theme idea. Which set do you like the best?
Any one of them will of course be fabulous! It really just boils down to personal taste. What do you think? Blue or red? Checks, stripes or blue crabs? Tell us in the comments.
Tango Red French Stripe Cotton Oversized Napkin
Set of 6
Isn’t this a great vintage looking napkin set? The latest trend right now is sewing old kitchen towels into table runners and napkins. With this set it has already been done for you and they pair perfectly with the red stripe tablecloth. Below find two more sets of red and white stripe bistro style napkins.
Any of these bistro style napkins are a perfect pairing for any weathered seaside casual tablescape any time of the year.
Blue Crab Napkin Sets
Either of these blue crab napkin sets will look amazing when paired with blue crab dinnerware. They can easily be mixed and matched with the red tablescape theme for Christmas or with a blue tablescape theme for a summer party.
Silver-tone Coastal Crab Napkin Ring
Set of 12
This set of 12 crab shaped napkin rings are silver colored brass, similar to the Williams-Sonoma set used by Mary in the photo. I like them with the galvanized tablescape designed by Mary, but for our Christmas tablescape, with a red theme, I prefer the red crab napkin ring set featured next.
Red Crab Napkin Ring
I like this red crab napkin ring for our red themed coastal Christmas tablescape. I like the color of this adorable red crab and think it is perfectly suited for a coastal Christmas table setting.
Twist 20-Piece Flatware Set Service for 4
I selected two different sets of stainless steel flatware to use with our nautical coastal blue crab table setting. This awesome set is a contemporary pattern made of stainless steel in a Twist pattern which looks similar to a nautical knot. I think it will look fabulous with this table setting.
This set is handcrafted and heat-forged high-quality stainless steel highly polished with a mirror finish. The Twist pattern has slender cylindrical handles which end in a whimsical nautical knot-like twist. The set includes 4 place settings each with a salad fork, dinner fork, knife, soup spoon, and a teaspoon.
Seaside 20-pc. Satin Flatware Set
A high-quality coastal stainless steel flatware set designed with a whimsical seaside pattern using starfish, sand dollars and seashells. It will pair beautifully with the blue crab nautical Christmas tablescape theme.
Rope and Anchor Large Wine Glasses Set of 4
Beautifully etched by sandblasting, this set of rope and anchor wine glasses will look amazing as an addition to any coastal themed tablescape at an affordable price.
Mary’s rustic design of blue crab bay tablescape is lovely with the use of all galvanized lanterns and candle holder accessories. At first I thought I might like using white for our Christmas theme instead of the galvanized. White, of course goes with everything, and it seemed a lovely choice for Christmas to coordinate with the white seashell dinnerware and the seashell decor.
Red Metal and Glass 3-Pc Mission Style Lantern Set
Then I found these red lanterns and knew how perfect red accessories would be; not only for this Christmas tablescape, but also during the summer on patriotic holidays. Red is such a beautiful classic Christmas color that its contrast pairing with blue and white is the ideal color for a coastal Christmas! It will be fabulous paired with the red striped tablecloth and table runner.
Whitewashed Starfish Slatted Wood
Figurine Table Top Decor
An adorable weatherbeaten starfish-shaped table top accent piece is an ideal whimsical piece of decor perfect for a coastal table top. I would place a couple on the tablescape, one on each side of the red mission lantern centerpiece.
Red Steel Fun Pail
Place a red galvanized pail on each side of the red lantern center arrangement and fill with evergreens. Mary used a stunning combination of cypress, pine, and cedar, but you can use any bits of greenery indigenous to your local area.
When I lived in Mesa, Arizona, I couldn’t just walk outside and pick evergreen sprigs like I do in Upstate New York, but we did have huge hedges of rosemary and big bushes of sage so that is what I used instead. In Hawaii, I used the natural florals growing in my yard, filling in with ti leaves and ferns.
I would then fill in around the table with more nautical themed accessories such as red fish netting, Japanese style fishing floats, seashells, and lots of candles. I believe that you can never have too many candles on a tablescape!
White Finger Starfish Size Assortment – Lot of 15
This is a great buy on starfish! You get 15 assorted sizes of starfish for the price. These starfish, or sea stars, are the real deal. They are genuine ocean starfish. I would use them all over my tablescape as nautical ocean decor.
Place them in red fish net as table accents; balance a few against the red lanterns and red buckets; set them randomly amidst the fishing floats and bottles; or anywhere amidst the tablescape your heart desires.
Red Cotton Fish Netting Nautical Table Decor
Add to the nautical feel of your coastal tablescape this Christmas by using this red fishing net like garland on the table. Lay it out flat as another visual layer on the tablecloth or bunch it and drape it all around the nautical table decor accessories.
Japanese Style Glass Netted Fish Buoys Fishing Floats
Used for fishing floats and fishing net markers way before plastic buoys, glass balls in rope nets can still be found occassionally washing onto shore. Replicas are made for nautical decorating in a variety of bright colors.
Glass Fishing Buoys Roped Net Floats
Three different sets of vintage style glass floats. Japanese style glass fishing floats are ideal to use as table decor for a Blue Crab Christmas Tablescape. These pieces are replicas of original glass floats used on fishing nets by Japanese fishermen to keep the nets afloat.
Genuine Japanese Glass Fishing Float
As a kid in Hawaii, we use to find these washed up on the beach. The currents would pick them up and carry them from wrecked Japanese fishing boats and damaged fishing nets from parts unknown, to far away shores such as the beaches in Hawaii. They are seldom washed onto shore any more, but occassionally you will still find one. This one was found on a beach in Alaska.
Replicated Japanese Glass Fishing Floats
Replicated netted Japanese glass ball fishing buoys are fun pieces to add to the nauticle decor of our Maryland blue crab themed christmas tablescape.
Red Candlestick Holders
Set of 3
I absolutely love the classic style of these red candlestick holders and think they will make will make a stunning statement as the anchors for each end of our Blue Crab Christmas Tablescape.
I would add a trio to each end of the table only on a large scale dining table with a minimum of 6 place settings. If entertaining with a more intimate, smaller setting, I would mix them in among the red lanterns, buckets of evergreens, the fishing floats and seashells.
White Faux Coral & Sea Urchin Candle Holders
Red Coastal Starfish Tea Light Candle Holder
Keeping with the coastal theme we can add lots of votive candles with the shapes of coral, seashells and sea stars, otherwise called starfish by landlubbers, sealife, and nautical pieces such as rope, anchors, and light houses. This red sea star mixes well with both navy blue and red coastal color themes.
